Lipid profile in this study was represented as: serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoproteins cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoproteins cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoproteins cholesterol (VLDL-C), the ratios of (TC : HDL-C), (LDL-C : HDL-C) and (TG : HDL-C) were assessed in males and females at a different age groups in order to identify the effect of sex and age on serum lipid profile. This study was conducted on 231 apparently healthy volunteers including (108 males & 123 females), aged (26-65) years. The subjects included in this study were divided into 4 age groups. According to the results recorded in this study, there was a significant difference of serum TG, HDL-C, VLDL-C, (TC: HDL-C), (LDL-C: HDL-C), and (TG : HDL-C) between males and females, while serum TC and LDL-C showed not significant difference between males and females. The mean value of serum TC, TG, LDL-C, VLDL-C, (TC: HDL-C), (LDL-C: HDL-C) and (TG : HDL-C) showed an increase with increasing age in a different sex however, the mean values of HDL-C was higher in younger ages and also higher in females than males.
