Extraction and purification of active compounds from Eruca sativa leaves and studying their antibacterial activity

Eruca sativa is a herbaceous plant that usually used in food due to its benefits for health. Human used many parts of this plant such as leaves, flowers, seeds and stems in experiments to kill pathogenic microorganisms like bacteria and fungi. This research aims to fight pathogenic bacteria which affect human and work as antibiotics. In this research we use two type of leaf (fresh and dried leaf) after extracted by using two type of solvents (Ethyl acetate, Ethanol). This study proved that E. sativa ethyl acetate extract of fresh leaves is more effective than others against Escherichia coli showed inhibition zone in about 12 mm the same type of extract was tested against staphylococcus aureus and got inhibition zone in a diameter 9 mm. E. sativa ethyl acetate extract of dried leaves tested against s. aureus showed inhibition zone in about 7 mm in diameter, but ethanolic extract showed 4 mm. All extracts of E. sativa had no activity against pseudomonas aeruginosa.
